Who says former presidents of the Educational Institute of Scotland fade away? Some of them become even more exalted with the passing years.

We note a Scottish Executive seminar taking place at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh a week today (Friday) on how the banks and financial services sector can help the jobless in areas of unemployment.

In the company of the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the Chancellor of the Exchequer will be none other than John Patten, former EIS president and now national development officer for Credit Union in Scotland.
