Pay review agreed

Ministers in WestminsterJhave been asked to review its two-year pay deal for teachers to keep pace with inflation. Following pressure fromJunions, the School Teachers’ Review Body has agreed the headline inflation rate of 4.8 per cent is enough to trigger a clause to re-examine the deal. This is allowed if average inflation reaches above 3.25 per cent for the whole year. Pay rises have been fixed at just 2.5 per cent for September 2006 and 2007. A review could mean a backdated pay rise for both years.
