Peacock’s dark aside

20th January 2006, 12:00am
Peter Peacock was in commanding form as he faced MSPs on the Parliament’s education committee last week. More parental involvement was the theme of the day.

Fiona Hyslop, the Scottish National Party’s equally commanding education supremo, wondered whether, in all the aspects of the current parental involvement bill, there might be a suggestion of combined education authorities and even, heaven forbid, directors of education responsible for more than one authority.

The normally brightly-lit committee room suddenly grew dark, as if the heavens were indeed responding.

“I thought I heard thunder when you mentioned that,” quipped the Education Minister. His hearing was indeed accurate.

Oh, what powers some have.
