Penguin and Orange to celebrate reading groups

4th April 2003, 1:00am
Reading groups are increasingly being courted by publishers and bookshops aiming to point them in the direction of books suitable for fiery debate.

Now Penguin and Orange want to celebrate reading groups for their own sake, and are looking for the group with the “most imaginative and diverse” approach.

Entrants are asked to write about how they choose what to read, the books they have loved, where they meet and what they find inspiring about their group. The winning group gets a trip to the Edinburgh Book Festival in August (free travel, accommodation and tickets to a panel event), lunch with a Penguin author and Penguin books worth pound;300.

Full details and entry forms on: www.penguin.co.ukreaders; www.orangeprize.co.uk; and from public libraries. Closing date June 30
