Tony Lenney, formerly chief education officer in Wakefield and Haringey and director of education and leisure at the Royal National Institute for the Blind, has joined Ealing Council to run the education department pending the appointment of a permanent director.

Dr Diane Greenwood is to be acting director of education for the diocese of Rochester from November 1. She has been deputy director there since 1988.

Patricia Morgan-Webb, principal and chief executive of Clarendon College, has been elected to the board of the newly-formed Association of Colleges, and to a government committee, chaired by Sir Nicholas Goodison, to review the Department for Education and Employment National Records of Achievement.

Dr Clive Booth, vice-chancellor of Oxford Brookes University, is to retire next March after 11 years in the post.

At the faculty of education, Roehampton Institute, Jane Devereux has been appointed director of primary initial teaching and BA QTS programme convenor; and Professor Pat Mahoney is now acting director of research development.

Dr Andreas Prindl, chair of Nomura Bank International plc, is the new provost of Gresham College, London EC1. He succeeds Peter Nailor, who died earlier this year.
