* Dr Stephen Manning is wholly mistaken in his view that Barton Court grammar in Canterbury was the first state school to replace A-levels with the international baccalaureate diploma programme (“Grammar scraps A-levels”, TES, October 28).

For the record, Broadgreen high school in Liverpool formally abolished A-levels in 1997 with our last A-level candidates completing their examinations in 1999.
