* I am somewhat confused by your headline “Ministers’ KS3 drive starts to reap rewards” (TES, July 26) as my wife assures me that no minister has set foot in her secondary school, let alone taught a class.

Am I then to believe that any improvement in the results in tests for 14-year-old pupils is down to the efforts of my wife and the other teachers who go into the classroom and teach?
