We were surprised to read the criticisms of the independent-state partnership programme by Andrew Boggis, chairman designate of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference (“Head slams ‘policy of distraction’”, TES, September, 23).

In Southwark, six state and three independent secondaries have for some time been working together to provide professional development for teachers, undertake joint projects involving staff and students, and run conferences for them. We are now planning a collaborative music workshop and concert.

We should be delighted if Mr Boggis would visit our successful partnership.
