PUPILS at schools with sixth forms are more likely to stay on in education after their GCSEs, according to official figures.
Only 62 per cent of 16-year-olds who attended schools without sixth forms remained in full-time education compared with 72 per cent of those able to stay on until the ge of 18.
The figures were revealed in an answer by lifelong learning minister Malcolm Wicks to James Clappison, Tory education spokesman. Rutland has the highest staying-on rate (94 per cent) of any English local authority and Stoke-on Trent and Salford the lowest (49 per cent).
