I UNDERSTAND that the original three wise men heralded the star in the east as a sign of hope, much as Diane Hofkins does, with huge portions of hindsight (TES, February 8).
The monumental difference between Rose, Alexander and Woodhead’s report and that of the original wise men is that in the latter case successive governments did not adopt prediction as future policy. Let’s not wrap up hindsight into a “they-were-right-all-along-then” miscarriage of perception.
