DURING a protracted appeal I was urged by officials from the exam board in question to become an examiner myself. The implication was that by so doing I would better understand what was required to please examiners.

Your article on “Magic markers” (Friday magazine, May 12) sugests the same thing.

I suggest that each board should provide sufficient training and support to enable every teacher to reliably interpret what is required in order to succeed.
