Pounds 700,000 lift for learning

South Lanarkshire has launched a Pounds 700,000 initiative to raise levels of achievement in schools. The initiative will focus on early intervention and behaviour support.

The authority, the fifth largest in Scotland, is also ranked fifth most deprived council area. Exam results have been average.

Maggi Allan, South Lanarkshire’s education director, said: “It is a major commitment from the authority and we are also trying to interest parents more in what we are doing.”
