Primary languages hit

8th October 2010, 1:00am

Almost half of local authorities in England providing language lessons in primary schools say they can only guarantee support for the next six months, according to a survey of 100 councils by languages organisation Cilt. Languages were due to be made a statutory part of the key stage 2 curriculum (for 8 to 11-year-olds) from 2011, but the legislation was ditched in the “wash up” before the Westminster general election.
