We are sure it was not a machiavellian touch that prompted The Times Higher Education Supplement, another of our sister journals, to include a free copy of Machiavelli: A Very Short Introduction in last week’s issue whose front page had a prominent picture of Education Secretary Charles Clarke alongside the headline “Clarke moves to head off pre-fees rush”.
