The principal of Kirkley Hall Agricultural College in Northumberland has been jailed for six months after rustling college cattle to pay credit card debts.

Peter Thompson, 55, sold 14 steers and heifers - including prized Aberdeen Angus beef cattle - worth a total of Pounds 11,000. He was arrested last year and later resigned. Newcastle Crown Court heard he had come under great strain due to overwork and had neglected personal finances.
