BOARDING schools also offer an excellent preparation for prison life, as the disgraced Jonathan Aitken so cavalierly commented a few months ago. He’s now discovering just how useful it was, of course.

Hopefully, his days at Eton will have helped him cope with one aspect of his induction into chokey - namely the assessment that all new inmates undergo of their levels of literacy and numeracy.
