Private passions

Auriol Stevens reveals deep-seated bias against private schools in her comment piece (“Private schools simply can’t have it all”, September 11). To say that they harm state education is to turn logic on its head.

State education has been harmed by low expectations, constant denial of poor standards and a wishful thinking that punishing or abolishing private schools is somehow going to improve state schools.
