There have been some interesting statistics coming out of the DFES overthe past couple of months. Of course, the department’s spin doctors were eager to promote the fact that the number of people training to become teachers is up 50 percent on five years ago.

Butthey managed to hide a further report revealing that more than half of teachers have thought about leaving the job in the pastyear.

The Df ES research showed that 54 per cent had thought about leaving, citing heavy workload (74 per cent), too much paperwork (68percent)andthestressof teaching (66 per cent) as theirtop three reasons.

Hidden away in the same survey was the factthatwhite male teachers were significantly more likely to gain promotion than any other group.
