PSE - Ignorance at root of racism

16th April 2010, 1:00am

School and college students joined major names from Scottish football at Hampden Park last month in the annual creative competition organised by Show Racism the Red Card, in partnership with the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).

The overall competition winner was Ross Duncan, a student at Edinburgh’s Telford College. His design for a poster, an illustration of a plant and root labelled “Insidious Creeper: Racist Vulgaris”, sought to reduce the complexities of racism to its root cause - ignorance. With his strapline, “Get to the root of it”, Ross was judged to have perfectly captured the campaign’s aim to eliminate racism.

Ross’s winning entry will feature alongside those of two other finalists in a poster campaign supported by the SQA. Every school, college and public body in Scotland will receive a set of the posters.
