Primary schools in the East Midlands have the highest pupil-teacher ratio in the country, official figures have shown. There is an average of one teacher for every 22 primary-age children in the region, compared with a national average of 21.3, according to the Department for Education. There is one teacher for every 19.9 pupils in inner-London primaries.
