PEOPLE, PLACES AND THEMES. By Alan Bilham-Boult, Heather Blades, John Hancock, Mike Ridout. Book pound;13.99 Teacher’s Resource Pack pound;49.99. Heinemann

This is an excellent combination of book and resource pack approved by the OCR examining board for use with the Bristol Project (OCR Syllabus C) GCSE course. It is just what we need; I have taught this course for a number of years and this publication is the ideal complement.

The book is highly structured to follow the syllabus, making it very easy to use for both students and teachers. There are lots of very good colour photographs and clear, simple diagrams. It provides a wide range of up-to-date case studies from less and more economically developed countries and th European Union. The authors have included definition boxes, questions and a full glossary.

The book also contains the material available for two decision-making exercises.

The final chapter pulls together the practical skillsstudents need to produce the coursework element.

The teacher’s resource pack is of the same high standard, and provides a photocopiable set of exercises that tie into the book and that can be used in class, for homework or for revision.

The pack contains 11 varied outline maps, practice GCSE questions and a full decison-making exercise at both foundation and higher level, together with mark schemes.
