Every time I read criticisms of Reading Recovery (“Phonics phanatics hit out at catch-up scheme”, TES, November 14), I review the reading outcomes of all the children who have received the intervention in my school since 2001.
I am ever the pragmatist in such matters and conscious of my accountability to pupils, parents, governors and others.
But after every review, I also note that Reading Recovery has been an unequivocal success, and worth every penny we have invested in the children and in our three Reading Recovery teachers - from a limited school budget.
