Red tape doesn’t stretch quite so far

It was not with a wry smile that I greeted the discussion about bureaucracy at the Public Accounts Committee hearing last week, more a concerned frown. A frown that only deepened when I read your misrepresentation of the hearing. Contrary to your report (“MPs told of the tangled web that has been woven”, 3 February), the committee learned that 3.6 per cent of public funding of further education is absorbed by bureaucracy, not #163;1 in #163;5, as you suggest.

I remain firmly committed to further education and expect to remain so up to and beyond my departure in July. It would be better if your correspondent was committed to championing the success and efficiency of the sector.
