The DfE has today released the names of six schools which have been successful in their applications for money from the government’s Selective Schools Expansion Fund.
The schools will share funding of £14.3 million which will together enable them to create more than 1,100 additional selective school places.
A total of 25 schools applied for the fund for which, in order to get cash, they must demonstrate strong commitment to increasing admissions of disadvantaged pupils.

The schools are:
King Edward VI Handsworth School, Birmingham
Ribston Hall High School, Gloucestershire
Haberdashers’ Adams, Telford and Wrekin
Newport Girls’ High School Academy, Telford and Wrekin
Altrincham Grammar School for Girls, Trafford
Stretford Grammar School, Trafford
Schools minister Nick Gibb said: “This investment will give even more young people, from all backgrounds, the chance to learn at some of the highest-performing schools in the country benefitting from the world-class education they offer.
“Successful schools are also required to work with neighbouring schools to share expertise so that opportunities can be improved for as many young people as possible as part of our continued efforts to drive up standards.”
