Around 600 S1 pupils have had the chance to participate in a fun day of rugby in the Highlands, run by the Scottish Rugby Union’s development officer in the area, Jock Peggie.

Boys and girls from the five Inverness secondary schools - Inverness Royal Academy, Culloden Academy, Millburn Academy, Inverness High and Charleston Academy - had the opportunity to sample the game for the first time.

“We are aiming to change the perception among young children in the area that rugby needs to be played on a big grass pitch with 15 players on each team,” explained Mr Peggie. “We are introducing them to a variety of fun games that can be played just about anywhere.”

As an added bonus, every youngster taking part was given a free ticket for Scotland’s Under-21 game against France in Inverness on March 20.
