With an Internet home at http:www.hea.org.uk the Health Education Authority is England’s leading health promotion organisation. Their on-line research reports chart the scale of particular problems that teachers (and others) might want to tackle, as well as some advice on what is more and less likely to succeed. Three important links: to Health Updates; to Current Projects; and to Effectiveness Studies are at http:www.hea.org.ukresearchindex.html.

The Health Updates series present statistical data on alcohol, smoking, physical activity, sexual health and immunisation, for example. Current Projects include some work in progress on the health behaviour of school-aged children. The Effectiveness Studies are substantial downloadable reports, including what should be a “compulsory read” on promoting the prevention of “unintentional injuries” among children and adolescents.
