Schools don’t have resources to train;Letter

Your correspondent Paul Barrett (TES, June 12) is spot on with his damning analysis of the Graduate and Registered Teacher Programme. I can’t even get on a PGCE, let alone have an interview for one, despite five years’ voluntary help in schools on a weekly basis and being a school governor.

Schools, it seems, do not have the resources to train teachers under this scheme. I accept this but why, in this case, does the programme exist? Perhaps the Teacher Training Agency could enlighten us.
