A new degree programme specialising in critical areas of medicine, including HIV, bird flu, asthma and diabetes, is being launched at Aberdeen University.

The BSc in immunology and pharmacology has been introduced as a direct response to an upsurge in demand for professionals in these fields. The degree focuses on the study of how the immune system operates when it is healthy and when it is malfunctioning, and how drugs and medicines can be applied to restore normal immune function.

The first intake will start next month. Graduates will be equipped for careers in immunological biotechnology and pharmaceutical research, marketing and development.
