THE Government faces an uphill battle as it tries to transform secondary pupils’ attitudes towards science and technology, according to a survey by school-equipment providers A to Z Supplies. Carried out in advance of the start of Sciece Year in September, the poll found that two-fifths of the 100 people questioned could not name any modern scientists, mathematicians or inventors and more than a quarter failed to recall any historical scientific figures.
