Science through the senses

From permanent rainbows to instant snow, sarahlouiseharris has shared some active science ideas for the early years foundation stage and key stage 1. The activities use everyday objects to encourage pupils’ sensory engagement with the world. They include:

fire spreads - water is dropped on paper to show how it spreads. This can stimulate discussions about the spread of fire and its dangers.

fish tank - using food colouring, detergent, sand and balloons, pupils create artificial fish and see them swim in their fish tank. A creative introduction to studying sea life.
