The Scottish Higher Education Funding Council has suggested that there should be a single funding body covering further and higher education.

In its submission to the Dearing enquiry into higher education provision, the council says this would provide clarity, efficiency and smooth the path of students to higher levels of study.

The ASC has not made up its mind on the nature of a funding council for FE, or whether there should be one. Its submission to Dearing says the main requirement is that any funding mechanism should be be based on transparency, open consultation, and a planning period of three years.
