Seeing but still underachieving

Up to 80 per cent of children are underachieving at school because they have poor eyesight, according to an optometrist’s study.

Having glasses, weak contact lenses or some visual training would help the youngsters, says Geoff Shayler, a leading optometrist whose three-year project examined links between the eyesight of primary pupils and their national test results.
