The film Whale Rider has won international prizes for its portrayal of the conflict in a Maori community when a girl assumes the leadership reserved for her deceased twin brother. A CD-Rom from Film Education offers many interactive resources for children of nine and over. As well as video clips and soundtrack extracts, it provides information on the location and casting and a wide-ranging set of topics for discussion. These include generational conflict, the changing role of women and our relationship with the natural world. The CD-Rom has been sent to secondary schools but extra copies are available from Film Education, 21-22 Poland Street, London W1F 8QQ.
