Sheffield Santa cheers infants

A GROUP of pupils who e-mailed Santa in a writing exercise were amazed to receive individual replies.

Children at Southey Green infants school in Sheffield can thank employees of the local education authority. Father Christmas was schools technology manager Dave Smith, assisted by elves Emma Williamson and Sarah Jackson. “We ended up with 90 e-mails and had to work in shifts over threedays. We wore Santa hats to help the creative flow of ideas,” said Mr Smith.

Literacy drive helps special schools THE national literacy strategy is helping to drive up reading and writing standards in special schools, the Office for Standards in Education has revealed. Pupils made good progress with English because of the strategy in a third of schools visited, said OFSTED.
