SCHOOLS will be leafleted in early September with news of a big information technology show at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow (November 4-5). Aimed primarily at schools and further education colleges, the show and accompanying conference are for anyone interested in computers in education and training.
Organised by the Scottish Council for Educational Technology and Emap, in association with TES Scotland, the exhibition is free and will have around 60 exhibitors, including Xemplar, RM, Microsoft, ICL, Oracle and Compaq. There will also be a drop-in centre with free Internet training for all teachers, and a free family night on November 4.
Attendance at the conference, which can be accredited as an Inset day, costs Pounds 95 per day. The opening address will be given by the Scottish Minister for Education, Helen Liddell, and speakers include Bob Fryer, author of the Fryer Report on lifelong learning, and Stephen Heppell, of East Anglia University’s Ultralab centre, on change by teachers, schools and learners.
Four concurrent strands of seminars will focus on: schools; FE colleges; learning centres; and special needs, with subjects ranging from the networked school experience to living with a public finance initiative and alternatives to exclusion. An eight-page guide to the event will appear in Online Education in The TES on October 16.
