Sir Michael, you are spoiling us

6th April 2012, 1:00am

Sir Michael Wilshaw has just made my Friday (“We can do better”, Comment, 30 March). I have been advising schools and colleges that Ofsted has no preconceived views on the structure of a lesson. They don’t believe me, and everywhere I go I find leadership teams demanding the “teaching by numbers” approach where all teachers complete a lesson-planning form detailing a “starter”, a “main part” and a “plenary”. Straitjackets come to mind. Thank you, Sir Michael, for laying this myth to rest.
