Six safe on the moors

Six school girls emerged safe and well from a night on Dartmoor after they failed to turn up at a checkpoint when a heavy mist descended over the area.

The 14 and 15-year olds from Torpoint school in east Cornwall were among 45 from the school on a 12-mile walk when they got lost.

But they were well-equipped and trained. Despite spending a cold, wet night in a tent, they said they would go on other expeditions, which the school has been organising for 20 years.
