Six-term year attracts Clarke

Charles Clarke has told councils that he sees merit in proposals which would see schools switching to a six-term year. The Education Secretary said he was “personally attracted” to the idea and that the Government is positive about proposals for change by September 2005. At least 25 councils have announced they will make the change. The National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers has threatened to ballot for strikes if teachers’ summer holidays are cut.
