Smokers are off limits

The imminent smoke ban in public places may be extended to playgrounds and parks, Jack McConnell has told the Children in Scotland magazine. The First Minister said: “We have encouraged local authorities to consider the benefits of introducing smoke-free policies in external areas where children and young people go, like school playgrounds and parks. This will help to discourage young people from being influenced by what they may see as an adult activity.”

From April, Glasgow smokers could be fined up to pound;200 if they smoke in council-run parks and playgrounds.
