Socialist stands in NUT election

Martin Powell-Davies, a member of the Socialist party, is standing in the National Union of Teachers general secretary election. The science teacher at Catford Girls’ school, south London and Lewisham branch secretary could split the left-wing vote. Other candidates are Ian Murch from the Campaign for a Democratic and Fighting Union; Steve Sinnott, the deputy general secretary, and John Bangs, NUT head of education. Nominations for the June ballot must be in by May 3.
