* I was visiting a class of Year 1 children when one of them boldly asked:

“Miss, is your jumper too small for you?” My explanation that three-quarter length sleeves are fashionable fell on stony ground.

* A colleague, who teaches music, was telling a friend how much she enjoyed Mozart’s Concerto in A Flat. At this point he five-year-old daughter, who had until then shown no interest in their conversation, perked up and proudly announced: “My nanny and granddad live in a flat.”

* Our top class (Year 4) were asked to define words ending “ate”. Hitten defined stagnate as “when the bride goes out to drink with her friends”.
