* My Year 4 class and I somehow got on to the subject of why I came to school by bus. When I said I couldn’t afford to run a car, one girl said:

“Why don’t you go and work at Asda - they pay lots!”

* When I was working as an advisory head, I came across the following sign pinned to the caretaker’s door: “If the person who removed my ladder from this store does not reurn it immediately, the head ha agreed for further steps to be taken.”

* My mother, a retired doctor’s receptionist, accompanied our week-long Year 6 residential trip to France. On the way back I asked her how she had enjoyed the experience, as I had often thought she would have made a very good teacher.

“Oh no!” she replied. “This was interesting, but I much prefer my old job - working with people.”
