Stacks of Stories

It’s time someone was nice about public libraries and here come 11 children’s authors to do just that. Stacks of Stories (cover pictured) is a Library Association anthology celebrating libraries, edited by Mary Hoffman. It was first published in 1997 and the Library Association is now CILIP, but the book is still published by Hodder Children’s Books and the stories are hardy perennials, especially Julia Jarman’s tale of Mary, who insists she is “not the imaginative sort” but goes time-travelling back to 1906 when her local library was built, and Bernard Ashley’s story of the Somali refugee child who finds “A Picture of Home” on a CD-Rom.
