Staff shape new literacy hour

16th December 2005, 12:00am
Pie Corbett (“Remoulding the framework,” TES, December 2) talked of a small group closeted in the bowels of the Department for Education and Skills rewriting the national literacy framework.

The reality is that the national strategies staff are currently engaged in meeting groups of teachers, heads and other partners involved in supporting primary schools and discussing with them how best to renew the literacy and maths frameworks.

Rewriting the strategy comes later: first we need to hear how best to make the revisions useful and user-friendly and address what needs addressing.
