Highland is to reinstate a 2 per cent cut in secondary staffing and give headteachers in 60 of its smallest primaries more management time by injecting pound;400,000 into the budget.
The new money will mean the appointment of 12 additional secondary teachers and seven primary teachers.
Heads in one and two-teacher schools will have an additional half-day management time, giving them one day a week.
Staffing was the major concern of parents and school boards during a recent series of meetings.
Val MacIver, Highland’s education convener, said the council had received pound;400,000 from the Scottish Office to buy books, worth pound;9 a pupil. Schools will have a minimum of pound;900.
Highland is also benefiting from the Government’s community school initiative and is allocating pound;150,000 to Inverness High and pound;50,000 to Alness Academy.
