A collection of 16 short stories from some of Britain and Ireland’s best writers has been commissioned to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the National Maritime Museum.

Sea Stories includes tales from remote landscapes in Orkney (pictured) and the west of Ireland, mysteries set in the Mediterranean, and stories inspired by John Franklin’s ill-fated expedition to find the North-West Passage in the 19th century.

Among the authors are Desmond Barry, Chris Cleave, Margaret Elphinstone, Niall Griffiths, Tessa Hadley, Roger Hubank, Charles Lambert, Sam Llewellyn, Robert Minhinnick, Nick Parker, Jim Perrin, James Scudamore, Martin Stephen, Erica Wagner, John Williams and Evie Wyld. The collection is published on September 27.
