This summer’s exam season saw more than 16 million scripts and seven million pieces of coursework marked, England’s qualifications regulator reported this week. Ofqual noted that an inquiry into incomplete marking in AQA GCSE and A-level papers, which led to more than 600 candidates receiving lower grades than they deserved, was under way. But Isabel Nisbet, the watchdog’s chief executive, concluded the summer exams were carried out “effectively, professionally and fairly”.
