A pound;25 million scheme to provide holiday activities for vulnerable eight to 19- year-olds was launched this week by former education secretary Estelle Morris. The Positive Activities scheme will offer young people at risk of losing contact with education and training the chance to take part in local arts, sports and cultural projects. Ms Morris, now arts minister, said that similar schemes last summer cut crime by up to 11 per cent.
