Symphony promise

27th April 2007, 1:00am
England’s top eight symphony orchestras have promised to perform live to every schoolchild in the country. In their manifesto, “Building on Excellence: Orchestra for the 21st century”, conductors from orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, the Birmingham Symphony and the Halle have pledged to double the number of people involved in community music-making.

They will also establish a new prize for excellence and innovation in classical music.
