The proposed General Teaching Council will only have a limited impact while teachers continue to struggle with excessive workloads, poor pay and Office for Standards in Education inspections, said general secretary Nigel de Gruchy.

“If these problems were resolved, the General Teaching Council could have greater relevance for teachers. The role of the GTC is only advisory,” he told the conference.
